What I like most since the creation of my blog is being able to frequently meet incredible people, be they entrepreneurs, designers or artists. During my last Parisian stay last fall, I got to meet the two creators of the lingerie brand Atelier Modesti. To my great pleasure, they invited me to their workshop, where each of their pieces are created…

Atelier Modesti: two women experimented in and passionate about lingerie.

Marine Laubel and Cécile Besco met at the Vanity Fair company, where they both worked. Cécile, who had more than 30 years of experience, began coaching and helping Marine for the preparation of the contest of Meilleur Ouvrier de France (“Best Craftsmen of France”) that she wished to enter. They started seeing each other every Saturday morning, for nearly a year. This mutual aid and support was very effective: Marine ranked high in the contest (and will enter again soon, hoping to win it), and the project of the Atelier Modesti was also born…

Cécile, from Dior Lingerie to the Dita Von Teese Wonderbra collection…

With her Baccalauréat B, Cécile saw herself as an English teacher at first! But after obtaining  a BTS in clothing and a diploma from a stylism school, she specialized in lingerie. Proud of her 30-years career, she worked among others for Dior lingerie, DIM, Passionata, Cacharelle, Playtex, Wonderbra (in particular for the Dita Von Teese collection), and lastly for Vanity Fair, where her professional life was to take a huge turn along Marine’s…

Marine, the corset lover…

One thing is for sure: she always knew it would be fashion! After a Baccalauréat in applied arts, she studied for 3 years at the Chardon Savar workshop. She specialized in lingerie after 2 years of formation in fashion and a contract for Etam Lingerie. After Vanity Fair, Marine chose a business incubator specialized in fashion. For lingerie, one has to invest in several devices: a serger, a sewing machine with zigzag stitching…

Launching of the brand Atelier Modesti.

It took a year and 6 months to design and make the first lingerie collection. The e-shop launched in June 2015, after 3 years of work in total… One of their priorities is the guarantee of quality, with the use of noble fabrics: Calais lace, Swiss and French embroidery, fine satin… Indeed, the first line of the collection is called “Hommage” and highlights the Calais lace.

Atelier Modesti: a brand with high values and style.

The choice of fabrics and patterns is paramount in the creators’ vision. They also chose a manufacture specialized in high-end fine lingerie in Europe to produce their collection. The quality is real! They like the refined and sexy with a touch of modernity but with a lot of inspiration from different eras. The name of the brand is indeed a reference to the “modesti” of the 18th century, a small piece of fine lingerie placed at the center of a corsage to tone down the cleavage. They aim at making their collections timeless, accessible to all, beautiful to the eye but still comfortable and cosy for everyday wear.

Refined and glamorous in Calais lace for your wedding.

As for the wedding collection, the brides-to-be can choose between three lines: Dis Moi Oui! (“tell me yes!”), Red Carpet and Ho’Mariage (Yes, I chose one of them for my wedding…). What’s more, they created a brand new collection, in a nude colour completely invisible on the skin, with, as an added bonus, a backless bra! Watch their website closely around mid-February…

Design consulting on the side

Along with their brand, they set up a design office providing among other things counselling for lingerie and swimwear brands on their concept and future collections.

Tailor-made on demand, corsetry…

One of Marine’s dreams is to become a corset-maker. Developing the corset part is therefore one of the brand’s objectives. You can already order tailor-made corsets on the website. I had the pleasure to contemplate the “Jeanne d’Arc” corset, a very Rococo-inspired piece. A real treasure! The tartan corset is also one of my favourites, but you knew that already didn’t you?
